Official IELTS Band Score Rounding Rules & Overall Calculator Logic
The overall IELTS band score is the arithmetic mean of your Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking component scores. If the average ends in .25 or greater, it rounds UP to the next half band (6.25 becomes 6.5). If it ends in .75 or greater, it rounds UP to the next whole band (6.75 becomes 7.0). If it ends in .125 or .625, it rounds down to the nearest half or whole integer.
Overall 6.5 Band Calculator: Score Combinations & Minimum Cutoffs
Band 6.5 is the primary requirement for university admissions. To achieve an Overall Band 6.5, the sum of your four individual skill scores must reach at least 25.0 marks. For example, scoring Listening 6.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0, and Speaking 6.5 produces an average of 6.375, which rounds up to Band 6.5.
IELTS Band Score C1 Level: Requirements & CEFR Equivalence
CEFR Level C1 corresponds to IELTS Band 7.0, Band 7.5, and Band 8.0. Achieving C1 status requires at least 30/40 raw marks in Listening and 30/40 in Academic Reading (or 34/40 in General Training Reading), demonstrating effective operational language proficiency for top-tier academic institutions and professional licensing boards.

IELTS Writing Task 1 and 2 Band Calculator & Score Weighting
Writing Task 2 contributes twice as much (66.7%) as Task 1 (33.3%). The combined Writing band is calculated as ((Task 1 × 1) + (Task 2 × 2)) ÷ 3 and rounded to the nearest half band.
